Last fall, 12 of us made 2 blocks for an exchange. They all have the same gray background and a solid.
We exchanged them in December.
January was spent setting these.
I had 7 strips of gray fabric. Each was 2 1/2 by the width of fabric. I found this frame in the book
Setting Solutions by Sharyn Craig
In the book it is for a finished 6 inch block. I had to do some math...
One strip made one frame with a little left over.
Each block would have its own gray frame and I went on a gray fabric shopping spree,
buying some here and there.
There will be another gray quilt in my future, I now have a ton of gray!
At first I was going to do a 4x6 layout. I changed my mind and made one more block so it could be 5x5. The background is different WOW fabrics. Some repeat, some don't. The block finishes at 14 1/2. They haven't been sewn together yet.
I started sewing Tula Pink blocks from the book 100 Modern quilt blocks.
They are pretty easy to make.
They are made with cherrywood fabrics. I'm pretty much following the colors from the book. If the block has a big chunk of print fabric, I am inserting these shoo fly blocks instead.
I am not in love yet, But I am thinking that by the end, as a group, they will all look awesome!
I snapped this the other day at school. I love all these circles! It would be a cool quilt.

I have the TP book - and I've tried making a few of the blocks . . . but I am NOT in love and so the book goes back on the shelf (it was even wire bound to make it lay flat).
The circles are awesome!
Do you sew 24/7 ? Lots of neat projects! I sewed to, really it was more cutting and laying out so I could sew soon.
Love the look of the gray. It is going to be a gorgeous quilt.
Love your gray blocks. That will make a really neat quilt. Your Tula blocks turned out great! I should try to get a few extra ones of those done, too.
Love the gray quilt/blocks.
I own the TP book, too.. must get to it one of these days. Love how you're doing 'em.
Love the circles.
Love is busting out all over!
I can't believe what at artist you are! Those gray stars are an amazing way to show off some very lovely blocks but that just be put together with regular lattice (which is the only idea that I would ever have). What a spectacular quilt this is going to be!
Wow…fantastic! When you look at your first photo with the blocks just piled there and then go to the photo where they are 'll set….they don't even look like the same blocks!! What a dramatic transformation!!!
I.LIKE.
I did a double take to see the blocks in the first photo become the centers of those beautiful gray stars. Wowser!
Wow! the blocks really pop with the gray background. Is this a take on "Fifty Shades of Grey" coming out this week? ;)
Wow, you've been busy while I wasn't looking!
Oh, wonderful blocks! I love the frame you did around the blocks - they look completely different somehow. That is a great frame idea. I was looking for that Sharyn Craig book the other day when I realized that I'd had a library book. I need to buy that book.
I agree with you about the TP blocks. Not great by themselves, but I think they'll look good together when you're done. I like that you're sticking in the pieced block instead of the big glob of print fabric. (Unless you were to use the same print fabric in all of them - that might be good too)
Love the circles photo! I have a quilt that is similar!
You know I've been resisting this call to the gray ever since I noticed it was becoming a phenonmenon in quilting ..... BUT you blocks are making face the error of ways..... I just MIGHT have to start collection gray fabrics.....
as for the TP blocks .... very nice very modern!! I don't know though, if I love it either, Modern is kinda like the gray fabric for me. But you know I should never say NEVER! because I might just be starting to like it!
But those circles I LOVE!!! Very DEFO I LOVE!! I have an idea......about those circles...HMMMMMMMM...thanks for sharing!! Years ago I bought a ruler and it had to do with circles....now might be the time to put that ruler to good use!!
