that turkey...

In the Sept/Oct 2009 issue of Cloth Paper Scissors there was an article on prompts.
add this shape, add that color, do this or that.....tons of them

I wrote them all down on little sheets, including....couch something on and I didn't even know what that was.

I wanted to add something to "that turkey quilt" but had no idea what.
So I drew out a little sheet from the container of prompts.

Wouldn't you know...I drew out couch something....
good grief
Well I needed to find out what it is.
Couching is a way of attaching something to your work, like wool, ribbon, thread, or even wire. You can make a picture or word or pattern.

I added light purple floss and stitched it in place with a rusty color around his hat.

That was cool, I just couched something on..... but enough of that, what else? Draw another sheet......

Add stripes.

So I had to think some more. How could I do that??

I added narrow strips of green fabric....the turkey looks like he is peaking out of the grass.

There is probably all kinds of things I could have done yet....but I wasn't feeling to adventurous.

And besides I wanted to send it off to my Aunt Barb sooner rather than later.

She got her first turkey hunting this year. She is an excellent hunter. Thanks to her (and my Uncle Hop) we have dined on different delicacies when visiting them in Idaho...

things like bear ham, elk roast and cougar sausage....and it is all so GOOD!!!!

two things

One of the gals in Karen's office is having a baby in early December........
She made her this baby quilt...

a rag quilt to be exact.....at least that is what Karen kept calling it...

"I'm working on my rag quilt"
"I have started clipping all the edges on my rag quilt now"
"I am still clipping edges on the rag quilt"
"I am almost done clipping everything on my rag quilt"

It took about 3 nights of watching TV to get the clipping done.

She washed it and then stuck it in the dryer....(giving it that nice unraveled look at all the seams)

It is so cute.....it measures about 40 x48 inches....

I took a scrap of muslin and traced an angel and the word believe

(from my "believe" book)

then I colored it and
then I stitched. It is not sealed with anything. It is more like an experiment.....
It took all day yesterday to finish it....working on and off....not every minute,
I was in and out and even fell asleep watching Fons and Porter.

Poor little thing will have to sit and wait for awhile while I decide what to do with it......

Gail Pan's Christmas Words

It is done...

(except for sewing the binding on the back,

.....a minor detail....

the pins do a nice job of holding it in place)

Before my Mom left on Sunday.....I laid this out and

it was decided that the gold border didn't look right....

We picked out a green that looked just right.

....and a darker green for the binding.

I am happy with it...

recent quilt things

Karen did some Disappearing 9 Patch blocks.

They go really, really fast.

Seems like she had just told me was starting these....

and now they already at the quilter.
It will be a table topper for Christmas,

about 48 x 48 inches.

Karen is so good at using prints. She just puts them together and they look right.....well these were from a charm pack, but her other stuff she has made looks right.

She said she doesn't think about it she ......JUST DOES IT.

crap....I can't help but stew and think.

>
I was out having Ozzy groomed and had time to kill.

I walked around the quilt shop looking at fat quarters.

The majority of my fabric is tone on tone...

not much for prints.

Well I wanted to be like Karen, so I picked up some

flowered prints that caught my eye.

I'll collect some more....I plan to putting them in a

scrappy trip around the world.
and when the time comes, I will not think about it I will just do it.

promises ....promises

I also grabbed some fabric for my Christmas Words It is the same red in both pictures, after I came home, I thought it looked nice with the Christmas fabrics.

That holly fabric is way more gold than it is showing up.

It looks more off white up above, this pic is probably

closer to it.

So now I want to work on my words again.

I have no idea how I will finish it right now.

I am so close to getting the stitching done on these.

But what did I actually do today???

I put the borders on this star quilt. Then sewed the backing fabric together. It is going to the quilter on Monday!!!

this weeks stuff...

Last weekend I finished all the words and wreaths.....
The magic, noel and delight still need the flower details added.
I started the delight flowers. I wasn't sure I llke the way it looked. Hmmmmm...what to do......

Wondered if I should cut it off and use a different color.
It looks like a snowflake in light blue, this is a really lousy picture so you'll have to trust me.
I walked away....
I came back....

I picked up scissors, looked at it some more.....

I put the scissors back down because.......

...out of the corner of my eye I spotted this............

The stitched Welcome I had bought at the quilt show in Duluth.

I am headed to another quilt show in Des Moines with my mom

and Karen.

I want to buy stuff there.....but this little voice in my head said

you better work on what you already have.....

so that is what I have been doing most of the week....

it lays on the desk....

(right next to the Christmas Wreath pieces, they are not forgotten)

and when ever I have a minute or two I will sit and sew on it.

It is coming along nicely!!

snow of all things

Heartbreak at the football game last night.
The score was tied at 8 to 8.
We had first chance to score.....
and didn't make it.....
their turn.....
and
they did make the winning touchtown.

I was bundled up last night....layers of sweatshirts and jackets
big warm gloves
even snowpants....

so it was no surprise that...
when we woke up.....
a dusting of snow was greeting us.

It doesn't seem right when the grass is still green
and some the leaves haven't even changed yet.

It is time to start winterizing.
Putting all that summery stuff away.

But it is cold, who really wants to be out there?

Inside is nicer.

There is always something to work on .

I just may work on my Christmas stitchin'.....

No plans for the day have been made yet....so who knows....
stitch by stitch, I will get these done eventually.

Noah's Ark BOM

A long time ago, less than 2 years I think.....
I was in blogland going from this blog to that blog
to see what I might see....

I saw these bunnies all over. Wondered what they were
about, but didn't pursue it.

A few months later I found where they were coming from.
It was here

I was only a few months behind and thought it was too cute to pass up.

I changed the way it was put together a little bit.
I used 1/2 inch finished squares instead of a solid frame around them.
I love my Noah's Ark BOM. It normally hangs in the bathroom, not on a tree.

BOM stitchin'

I am trying to get caught up on this BOM. I have 4 done, one almost done and 'believe' only has the stitching lines drawn on it.

It will be a Christmas wall hanging with Christmas words stitched on it.

I may set it aside and wait for the next block and do them together in July (or whenever)

I'm not crazy about my fabric choice. In my mind it looked fantastic, but as the blocks get finished, I am not so sure. I even debated stopping and starting all over with lighter fabric. In the end I decided to just leave it as it is.

I also changed some of the floss colors, there is orange & pink in some of the blocks.

I showed it to my Mom while we were in Duluth. I don't remember her gasping in horror at my color choices. She doesn't like orange and pink if they are anywhere near each other. I think it's a rather fun combo, just not two colors that come to mind when you think of Christmas.........it will be interesting to see it all together next fall.

Check Gail out...she has some cute stuff!!!!
