Roadtrip....

Tomorrow is the big day!
I will be going to Des Moines for the Quilt Show with  Karen, the small town quilter
We went last year with my Mom, but she is away on holiday.
So right now it is just the two of us.
Last year, we pretty much ignored sewing machines. But this year, Karen wants
to check them out. She swears we will not be lugging one out to the car....
she just wants to look....
What can that hurt???
I don't have anything in particular that I want....I just want to look and soak it all up!!!

bouncing around with different projects....

I have been bouncing around on different projects.  I unearthed the penguin blocks. They are getting a simple straight layout. Going wonky with them seemed a little complicated....and I want it done sooner, rather than later.
The two wall quilts only need their binding put on...and since binding is my LEAST favorite part, they sit. They will be a surprise gift for someone....and it isn't any of my sister's, so they don't need to get their hopes up....and in case my Mom is reading....they aren't for her either.

This is my oops picture. When I was sewing my rows together I ended up with something that just didn't look right. Out came the seam ripper. I am planning on quilting this soon too. A quilt came back from the quilters recently, and there is lots of extra batting on it. I haven't checked, but I hope it is wide enough to use with this small quilt.

auction deal.....

I forgot, a couple weeks ago when my sister was here, she and tractor joe went to an auction.
There was a piece of furniture that might work in the living room for storage of tractor joe's trucking and off season clothes. They sent a picture, should they bid???
I suppose, if it goes low enough.

Was I ever shocked when they said they got it...

for only...

you won't believe this....

they got it for $2.50.
That right two dollars and 50 cents.
I couldn't believe it.
Then the debate was.....do we paint it black, or leave it as is.
Where do we put it? Here or there?
Right now it is behind the recliner.
Waiting.
Odds are, it will be there a year from now, still waiting and wondering....
Will I get a new location and a coat of black paint??

I'm too busy making mistakes 2 B perfect!

I was doing my normal blog hopping this morning, finding new and different places to visit.
I found something interesting at this blog.....ordinarycourage

The whole concept spoke to me, perfection is so overrated.
I liked looking at the different links, seeing every one's signs. There are a ton there and I didn't hit them all.
It was this afternoon, when I looked out and saw our newest car....
and I remembered....
(my head hung low)
The poor thing is sporting a donut right now.
I drove on a flat tire recently, doing a fantastic job of wrecking the tire.
I wondered why the car was suddenly driving so rough.
How strange, why is it so shaky, what is wrong with it?
At first I wasn't even going to blog about it....being perfect and all, ya know. But I have changed my mind.

I do want you to know, if I were perfect, I would redo the picture, later, when the car was in the shade and you would be able read the sign better. I used the sign words in the title, there, problem solved.
The new tire should be in on Tuesday. It isn't the same exact tire as the others, but it will be close enough.....So even though it will have mismatched tires, it will be perfect because I can drive it again.

Well, wait a minute, that is if tractor joe even lets me get close to it.

the last homecoming....

These are pictures from a friend. They are from the homecoming parade and pep rally last week.
Crispy is on the 11th grade float here.....
he is right above the word Set.
I never saw him during the parade, some how I missed him. Might have been busy keeping preschoolers off the street when the candy was thrown....

He swears he was yelling
 "mom"
"MOM"
But I never heard him.
The band Crispy plays with (Fuze) was on hand for the pep rally.
He usually plays bass guitar, but here he is on the drums.  He came home asking,
"did you see me???"
"I was on the drums today!"
Yes I did see that.
On the far left in this picture is the famous and now hairless Ben.  He gave up his hair, only to have it become a beard. Several of the boys did this. Was it because their coach is bald? I am not even sure.

Everything at the high school is for the last time.
Our high school is closing after this year. Not enough kids, not enough money...blah blah blah
Everything has a little bit of sadness in it this year.
Add caption
I don't know who this little girl is, but I thought the picture captures that sadness perfectly.

homecoming

Crispy came home from school with 2 projects for me. The first was look up Sid from Toy Story...Sid had a T-shirt with a skull on it. For dress up day Crispy wanted to dress as Sid....
That didn't seem to hard, I had bought plain black T-shirts for him at the start of the school year. Plain old white acrylic paint was also in ample supply. I was pretty sure I could handle that.

It was the other thing he brought home... A plastic zip lock bag full of red hair. It was marked pure ginger.

"What is this?" My nose all wrinkled up.
"oh, that is Ben's hair"

"Why do you have Ben's hair?? Does his mother know he doesn't have his hair anymore???"
"oh, we aren't going to talk about that. I just want you to make a beard with it."

"A beard for what??...and what is his mother going to say??"

Then Crispy smiled. He must like to hear my voice get loud in panic.

He went on to explain that Ben shaved his head for homecoming and of course his Mom knew....and Crispy had the wild idea of saving it to make a beard for a skit they were doing during homecoming week.
So simple.

I cut some felt, using a basic pattern, checked to see if it fit Crispy's face and went out side to start gluing.
It was kinda gross.

But I did it. After supper I cut out a stencil for Sid's skull. I pounced on white paint until it looked white enough to show up on the black.
Crispy was very happy with how both things turned out. His brother was hoping I could make another one for him.
Even though Crispy doesn't play football this year, We did go up to the Homecoming football game. There were times we were even ahead. But in the end the other team won by 2 touch downs. At least they weren't blown away. There was always hope they would really win one game....but so far that hasn't happened.

scrapbook weekend....

My mom, sister and niece came down last weekend. There was one major goal....
scrapbook Katy's trip
to Germany.
It was her German class in high school that went on this little field trip. Her Mom wanted to help and I like doing scrap booking so all three of us got busy on Saturday.
First Katy went through the pictures to group them up for pages and mark where they were taken.
She was looking up all kinds of things to get the right spelling.

Then the embossing things came out and we started stamping and embossing things on paper until we were tired of that and the pile seemed high enough.

Then the paint came out. Katy told us what her favorite colors were, but both her mother and I tried to sneak in different colors too. We had no real plan.

At last, the pages were laid out and Katy started picking a page for each group of pictures. By Saturday night all the pictures were stuck to a page. She was even able to get the titles and some journaling done.

She needs two more pages to fill the album and her Mom was full of ideas to embellish them some more when they got home. It was very successful. We did 18 pages all together.
I hope she loves it. It was so much fun doing it with her.
