Last winter, I saw this blog...buildinghousesfromscraps....teeny tiny houses, seemed simple enough.
Except it wasn't.
I made a few using different techniques. I found this one in a pile of fabric. Not sure what went wrong. There were others that weren't nearly as bad and they were put into pot holders and given away.
I gave up.
Then I saw this wonderful pile of mini-houses here at karenssewingrooms and she encouraged me to give it another go.
So I did. I made tiny templates for the roof. Strip-pieced the chimneys. And very carefully cut the doors and window to the size they needed to be.
(cutting things the correct size always helps)
Here are the first four....and I was happy enough with them that I made about a dozen more.
While I was going through my skinny strip bag, I found some small string quilt blocks I had started. There was even a few paper squares in there,
all ready for sewing more string blocks....
So I ran them through the machine while making houses.
They are 4 1/2 inch squares. It will be a bit before I have enough for a quilt.
While cleaning and sorting my way through a pile of fabrics, I found rectangles....
all cut and ready to go.....I sat right down and made......
Little tissue holders!
Karen, my Karen, not the little houses Karen, said if they were re-sized just a little bit they would make nice cell phone holders. Hmmm.....that would require more thinking and measuring.
I will save that for another day.

Your houses are looking good. Sew on!
Thanks so much for the shout-out on the houses. I never thought of strip piecing the chimney section. Darn. I have hundreds of pieces already cut. When I get through those, I will try strip piecing.
Those houses are as cute as can be. I can't wait to see what you do with them!
I was going to email you and ask if or what you had going after you finished the Tshirt quilt. I thought maybe you might need a quilty rest after THAT one....but NO, here you are over here just sewing up a new moon (ok, that's a phrase I use sometimes).
I have that little house pattern/template but haven't tried it yet. They really are so little cute and adorable. I'm glad you found an easier way to get them sewed up. Hope I don't have troubles when I go to do some!!!
I'm very impressed at all you are getting done. Feels soooo good to be productive and have some results to show. Your colors are all bright and cheery too!
I would have something to show too, but darn it....that dang computer I use that has all my photos on it is messed up again. I can usually get it going again but it is taking a little longer this time.
I have been strip sewing the last few days....something neutral.....something calm....
Love your little houses! So cute! But they look like a P.I.T.A.(pain in the a**) I made 9 inch house blocks and had to re-do that crazy roof seam on every single block. Got that out of my system! But they are so cute....
Wow, you've just been sewing up a storm! You make me feel like a slacker. Love those string blocks. Are you going to put them with the houses, or are they bigger? Or smaller?
Cute tissue holders too!
I think you should make a bunch of those tissue holders and sell them along with your cards at the next crafts fair you see. You'll make a mint!
